Ned Collette
Australian/New Zealander Ned Collette plays this special show to celebrate the release of his new album Mixed Light. He’ll be joined by his regular Berlin quartet of The Necks’ Chris Abrahams piano, Steve Heather drums, and Fredrik Kinbom bass.
Collette has long established himself as a songwriter whose literate, evocative songs are paired with music that’s both adventurous and eclectic. His albums exist inside a dynamic flux of folk, jazz and avant rock, and his long list of regular collaborators include Bonnie “Prince” Billy, members of the Dirty Three, and the folk singer Leah Senior. Collette’s songwriting, combined with his early background in improvised and experimental music, has resulted in eight albums of uncompromising vision, released on a variety of international labels. These are produced mostly out of his studio in Berlin, where he has been based since 2010. Funny, haunting and sad, often all at once, the songs nonetheless manages to remain plain-spoken and uncluttered. His forthcoming album Mixed Light, along with 2024’s Our Other History and 2018’s double LP Old Chestnut rounds out a series of complex folk song-cycles featuring byways of diverse experimentation. His live performances drift between delicate, intimate folk and sonic exploration, which has seen him appear at festivals throughout Europe, Australasia, Japan, South America and the USA.
Hezron Chetty
South African-born and now based in Berlin, Hezron Chetty is a musician whose work blends diverse musical genres across both his recordings and live performances. Having begun his musical journey through the Royal Schools of Music before pursuing a Bachelor of Music at university, he later left his hometown of Durban to explore cultures around the world and discover the role of the violin within them, sharing both the music and the stories he encountered along the way. This journey has taken him to the United Kingdom, Spain, Italy, Belgium, Mozambique, Tanzania, India, the Netherlands, Germany, and beyond, reflecting his belief that music is a universal language meant to connect people across cultures.
His career has seen his music featured on major international radio and television platforms, including the BBC and Netflix, while his performances have ranged from intimate street corners and small venues to renowned stages and festivals such as the Royal Opera House, Green Point Stadium, The Jazz Café, Heimathafen, Ronnie Scott’s, Rudolstadt Festival, Rocking the Daisies, OppiKoppi, and Festas Da Ascensión. Along the way, he has supported acclaimed artists including Incubus, Vieux Farka Touré, Jocelyn Brown (Incognito), Paco Sery (Joe Zawinul), Cheick Tidiane Seck, and Marco Mendoza (Thin Lizzy), and has shared festival lineups with artists such as Eagles of Death Metal, Hugh Masekela, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Raekwon (Wu-Tang Clan), Mac Miller, Abdullah Ibrahim, Bullet for My Valentine, Enter Shikari, and many more.
