Church In Session XVI: Krautfuzz / Tavare

Another concert in the “Church in Session” series at Startbahn, in Neukölln.

Doors at 7, music by 8.  Entry is by donation, and like all of these shows, it’s all-ages, smoke-free, and handicap accessible.

Krautfuzz

This trio started out playing improvisational fuzzkraut-ish sessions in November 2022 after Imari Kokubo, Dirk Dresselhaus, and Derek Shirley had unavailingly planned to hook up with each other individually for a couple of years.
As each of them is involved in an extended variety of music (Vladislav Delay Quartet, die ANGEL, Schneider TM, faust, Piratezombiedog, Monno, The Still, Hi-Speed Dubbing, etc.), the premise is to boil down stylistic concepts to their essence by playing loud, time-transcending music without a safety net and giving some extra attention to communication in-between each other as well as to the individual subconsciousness. krautfuzz is embossed by an angular-futuristic tension, spanning from fuzzed-out neo-psych-rock to abstract, heavily processed minimalism, and is open at the fringes. fuzzkraut 3 was recorded as the first piece of the second session they’ve played together.

Tavare

Tavare, originally performing under the moniker Aidan Baker Trio, is a newly formed Berlin-based trio playing stripped-down slowcore, dirge-pop. The band consists of Aidan Baker, originally from Canada but based in Berlin for over a decade, who makes guitar-based music ranging from ambient/experimental to post-rock to drone-jazz, both solo and with various groups, mostly notably the dreamsludge duo Nadja; Tristen Bakker, also from Canada, who makes soft-noise, prog, ambient and punk music as a solo artist and with groups such as VROUW! and Otolitos; and Angela Muñoz, a musician, dancer and performer from Spain, who plays with several groups including nunofyrbeeswax, Vrouw and (also with Aidan) Hypnodrone Ensemble.
